Calories in a baguette
The most bought bread in France, whose honest portion is a fraction the hand already knows: the evening chunk is a fifth of a baguette.

What a real portion weighs
The Anses table gives values per 100 grams, and 100 grams is not a portion anybody serves. Here are the same values, applied to the portions as they turn up. Weights are in grams, the unit the table is built on. For a quick conversion: 1 oz is about 28 g, and 1 lb is about 454 g.
| Portion | Weight | Energy | Protein | Carbs | Fat | Fiber |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Half a baguette | 125 g | 359 kcal | 11.3 g | 72.9 g | 1.8 g | 3.4 g |
| A breakfast piece | 60 g | 172 kcal | 5.4 g | 35 g | 0.8 g | 1.6 g |
| A whole baguette | 250 g | 718 kcal | 22.7 g | 145.8 g | 3.5 g | 6.8 g |
Where these weights come from. Baker's practice, not regulation: no rule sets the weight of a baguette, the ordinary one runs around 250 g and the tradition a little above.

Baguette vs whole wheat bread
At equal weight, two breads that hold their own. Whole wheat keeps the fiber that white flour lost, and the energy gap is smaller than it sounds.
| Food | Energy | Protein | Carbs | Fat | Fiber |

| Baguette | 287 kcal | 9.1 g | 58.3 g | 1.4 g | 2.7 g |

Weight for weight, the baguette: 23% more energy.
What a table of values does not say
- Crumb and crust are the same bread: a well baked baguette weighs slightly less, the water being gone.
- Bread goes with everything, and that is exactly how it escapes the count: a piece at every meal is a whole portion by the end of the day.

What comes after the number
How much to eat in a day
A portion means nothing without the day that holds it. A calorie need is worked out from height, weight, age and activity level, then split into protein, carbohydrate and fat.
Calorie calculatorWhere body build sits
Body mass index, the full WHO classification, and the weight range matching a normal build for a given height.
BMI calculatorAn average weight is an estimate. A photo is not.
In Zemiam, a photo of the meal is enough to log the real portion, with the composition of this same table rather than a guessed figure.
Where the values come from
The composition comes from the Anses Ciqual table: Anses. 2025. Table de composition nutritionnelle des aliments Ciqual, published under Licence Ouverte 2.0. The per-100 g values are reproduced without being altered; the per-portion values are those same values multiplied by a weight, and that weight is not an Anses figure.
